A lot of the businesses we work with have the same two things going on. There's a blog on the website, with a few good posts nobody seems to read. And there's an Instagram or Facebook page, posting away every week, that never sends anyone anywhere. Two perfectly good channels, running side by side, never talking to each other. Connecting them is one of the easiest wins I know of, and here's why it's worth doing.
1. Your posts actually get read
Publishing a blog post and waiting for Google to find it can take weeks, sometimes months. Your followers are already there today. Sharing a new post on your socials puts it in front of people who've already said they're interested in what you do, on the day it goes live. That first wave of readers is often the difference between a post that quietly sits there and one that gets shared, saved and talked about.
2. One piece of work turns into a week of content
Coming up with something new to post every day is exhausting. A single blog post is a goldmine: the headline becomes a post, each tip becomes a carousel slide, a key quote becomes a graphic, and the whole thing can become a short video. Instead of starting from a blank page every time, you're sharing the same well-thought-out idea in different shapes, each one pointing back to the full article.
3. Social followers become website visitors (and then enquiries)
On social media you're renting space on someone else's platform, and the algorithm decides who sees you. When a follower clicks through to your blog, they're on your turf. They can browse your services, look at your work, and hit the "Get in Touch" button, all without a feed pulling them away. A blog post shared on social is often the bridge between "I like their posts" and "I'd like a quote".
4. Good link previews make you look professional
This is the bit I spend a lot of time on behind the scenes. When you paste a link into Facebook, LinkedIn or WhatsApp, the platform builds a little preview card with an image, a title and a short description. If your website is set up properly (using what are called Open Graph tags), that card shows a crisp, on-brand image and a clear headline. If it isn't, you get a blank grey box or a random photo cropped in half. Every post on this blog has its preview set up, so a share looks as polished as the article itself. It's a small detail that makes a big difference to whether people click.
5. It helps your Google rankings over time
Search engines pay attention to whether real people are finding and reading your content. Sharing posts on social brings in visitors, gets your articles in front of people who might link to them, and helps new pages get discovered sooner. Social shares aren't a magic SEO switch, but a blog that gets read steadily tends to do better in search than one that nobody visits.
6. You learn what your audience actually cares about
Once your blog and socials are connected, you can see which topics make people click, which ones they share, and which ones lead to enquiries. That tells you what to write about next, what to post more of, and which services people are most curious about. Guesswork turns into something much closer to a plan.
A few quick tips to get started
Share every new post at least twice: once on the day it goes live, and again a few weeks later with a different angle or graphic. Add your latest post to your link in bio. Write a short caption that gives people a reason to click, rather than just "new blog post!". And make sure your link previews look right before you post, by pasting the link into a private WhatsApp chat to see what comes up.
